Kanyashree’s core objectives are simple and focussed: it aims to ensure that girls stay in school , delay their marriages till at least age 18 and improve the quality of education of the girl child and help them to be self dependent. The scheme has two cash transfer components: a) Scholarship of Rs 750 / year b)One time grant of Rs 25,000.
The unmarried girls between 13- 18 yrs of age from classes VIII - XII studying in government sponsored / recognised or open schools or studying in equivalent vocational/ technical institutions will receive an yearly scholarship
Unmarried girls till the age of 18, government recognised/ sponsored schools or open school/ college or girls enrolled or undergoing in vocational institutions or sports education training institute will receive an annual grant of Rs 25, 000. The girls of Government Juvenile Justice Home ( 18-19 yrs of age) can also avail the benefits of the scheme. In both the cases the annual family income of the student should not exceed Rs 1, 20,000 / year. The condition of the limit of the annual family income is not applicable if the girl is physically handicapped ( 40%) / orphan/ inmmate of Juvenile Justice Home.
