Meherpur Tulsirani Smiriti Vidyapith The year was 1990. The village Meherpur, a remote village in the Sunderbans marked by dense forest infested with wild animals. There were two schools within the 3 km radius of the village. So, to bring out the villagers from the darkness of illiteracy, It was Vivekananda Poddar’s ( school secretary) intense endeavour along with some learned souls, that the foundation of the school was laid. Then the school had a few teachers and 70 students. But, today, the student strength of the school is 179 students guided by 12 teachers. The cleanliness of school surroundings is maintained by the students themselves and every significant day is celebrated by the school. Thus the ‘Swayangsiddha, programme was organised on November 16, 2017, whose primary aim was to make the youths aware of the prevention of human trafficking and child marriage.
