Sridharnagar Shailendra Vidyapith could be reached by one and a half hour motorboat ride from Ramganga Ghat and an engine van ride for 40 minutes. The school is situated on an island, established in 1960. In 2010, the school was upgraded to a higher secondary one. Presently, the student strength of the school is nearly 1600. It has a huge garden, pond and a play ground. An interaction with the students brought to the forefront the fact the marrying after elopement is common in the area, and needless to say, they are all cases of child marriage. The students had no clear idea about the pitfalls, related laws and helplines to prevent child marriage. After knowing about the horrors of the same, they were wrong in helping their friends to elope. Further interaction revealed that the young boys have a tendency to the various states in South India, especially Kerala, to work as daily labourers.
