Over the past two years, 400 Swayangsiddha groups have been formed in South 24 Parganas. They are conducting rallies, day celebrations, poster making, etc. and raising awareness on ramifications of human trafficking, pitfalls of child marriage and other issues of child protection amongst peers, parents and the community at large. The initiative has gained momentum across West Bengal and many cases have been prevented. To further encourage and give impetus to youth-led action and to make the Swayangsiddha groups stronger in their fight against child marriage and human trafficking, one-day youth meets “Swayangsiddha Sammelan” will be celebrated on the following dates –
1) 19 Feb 2019 – Diamond Harbour & Kakdwip sub-division at Rabindra Bhawan, DDH
2) 22 Feb 2019 – Canning sub-division at Kultali Milan Tirtha Society, Basanti
3) 27 Feb 2019 – Baruipur sub-division at Jai Hind Auditorium, Sonarpur
These youth meets aim to create a platform for the Swayangsiddha groups to share their experience as change makers. It also aims to provide knowledge on different areas and issues to empower them to take their activities to the next level. The meets will encourage adolescents to express their thoughts, opinion and ideas through positive talk, art & cultural performances. Various interactive sessions will be conducted for generating awareness on education, health, gender, legal literacy, heritage & culture and online safety.
